The Stanley Cup is
awarded each season of NHL play to the winner of
the NHL Playoffs. There have only been two years
since 1894 that the Stanley Cup was not awarded.
Outbreaks of Spanish influenza in 1919, which
lead to a cancellation of the NHL Playoffs, and
the NHL lockout during the 2004-05 season are
the only seasons thus far to not have a Stanley
Cup winner. The Montreal Canadiens lead all
teams in the NHL with 24 Stanley Cup victories
and the Detroit Red Wings have the most wins of
any North American team with 10.
The Stanley Cup is one
of the most unique trophies in all of
professional sports. Not only is it the oldest
of all trophies, but members of the Stanley
Cup-winning team each have their name engraved
in the trophy. Beginning in 1995, members of the
winning team have been allowed to have the
Stanley Cup for a day and take it wherever they
want. The Stanley Cup has traveled over 400,000
miles in the past five years alone. Only the
best of the NHL will ever get to play in the
Stanley Cup Playoffs, let alone win the Stanley
Cup. Hockey fans won't want to miss their chance
to see some of the best hockey games and hockey
players the NHL has to offer! Get your Stanley
Cup Playoff tickets before it's too
late!
